THE STORY OF MY TAI TAI

about-modal-img

Once upon a time, a little girl was born in Issan, Northern Thailand. Beautiful budding babe that she was, they decided to call her “Baw” after the serene and glorious lotus flower.

Humble beginnings unfolded into years of working in the luxuriant rice fields of which Issan is famous for. Baw found herself gravitating towards another aspect of Issan distinction – its cuisine. Pretty, sassy and sweet 16, she became a regular at Auntie Jude’s food stall. Like the spicy and sour of traditional Issan cuisine, cooking and eating became her spice of life.

Like the chilli peppers that were a mainstay of her culinary repertoire, there was a fire inside Baw that propelled her to greater aspirations. Never a conformist to inhibitions or expectations, this get-up-and-go girl did just that. She eloped with childhood sweetheart and tattoo artist from prominent family Kun Pat – and set her sights on the bright lights, big city of Bangkok.

With her elopement came a shift in Baw’s status – from modest to magnificent, from country bumpkin to cosmopolitan socialite. Her reign as an official “tai tai” had begun. But neither her reversal of fortune nor settling in the hub of Thailand stopped this ambitious, astute, sensual and feisty (now) lady from jet-setting all over her homeland to master her craft and inspire her culinary artistry. Inextinguishable passion behind the pursuit, Baw’s restaurant empire was born.

Fast-forward to 2016, Baw is ready to conquer Asia’s other culinary capital – Hong Kong. The opening of My Tai Tai pays homage to her roots, elaborates on her dreams, and continues the legacy that she has established.

“Oh, My Tai Tai…..we will fall in love with you by and by…..”
